West Byford Primary School Library
Our school library is a vibrant and welcoming space where curiosity, imagination and a passion for learning can flourish. We are dedicated to fostering a love for reading among students of all ages.
We have a fantastic range of fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, graphic novels and magazines available for students to borrow. The enjoyment of reading as a lifelong habit is a major focus and we welcome requests and subject suggestions from students.
Our library plays a vital role in supporting learning across the school. By working closely with classroom teachers, we ensure students and staff have access to a wide range of resources.
Open Hours
The library is open to students Monday – Friday from 8.00am to 3.00pm. Students are encouraged to visit before or after school to change their books as often as they like.
Student Borrowing
Students must have a library bag to borrow books. A water-resistant bag is preferred to minimise damage from water bottles and food. These can be purchased from the uniform shop.
Books are borrowed for a period of one week but can be renewed. The number of books a student can borrow is dependent on their year level.
If books are not returned, students may borrow one book that is to remain in the classroom until all others are returned.
If library books are lost or damaged, parents may be asked to pay the replacement cost.
Oliver – Library Management System (LMS)
West Byford Primary School operates a cloud-based Library Management System. Students have access to two search engine computers in the library to search for books. See here for West Byford Primary School’s library home page where you can explore our available resources.
All overdue notices and invoices are generated automatically from the LMS according to due dates.
Events
Book Week is celebrated each August with displays and a dress up parade to match the theme of the year set by the CBCA.
Other events include Scholastic Book Fair, Premiers Reading Challenge and Western Australian Young Readers Book Awards (WAYRBA).
In 2017, West Byford Primary School successfully attempted a Guinness World Record for ‘The Most People Dressed as Harry Potter’. Our certificate is proudly displayed in the front office and the record documented in the 2022 Guinness World Records book. This was a fantastic event that brought the Byford community together.
We welcome you to visit the library with your child!
